Overview

Unlock the wild beauty of Eastern Kham, a remote and captivating region in Western Sichuan where towering snow peaks, rolling grasslands, and sacred alpine lakes create one of the most breathtaking landscapes on Earth. This 10-day, tailor-made journey takes you deep into the heart of Tibetan culture and pristine wilderness, from the dramatic high-altitude approach at Kangding Airport to the serene valleys of Tagong, the inspiring vistas of Yala Mountain, and the expansive grasslands of Litang. Along the way, you will discover hidden gems like the marvelously secluded Mt. Genyen, with its ancient monastery nestled in the valley, and the world-renowned Yading National Park—a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve often compared to the epic grandeur of the Canadian Rockies.

Kanding Airport

Not only is this airport one of the world’s highest, but its location and surroundings are truly striking as well. Perched at such an extreme altitude, it offers breathtaking views of rugged peaks and vast open skies that few other airports can match. Moreover, the dramatic landscape surrounding the runway—from sweeping valleys to distant snow-covered mountains—makes the approach and takeoff an unforgettable experience. In fact, the sheer remoteness of the site only adds to its allure, leaving travelers with a lasting impression long after they’ve landed.

Tagong

It’s a small but very interesting town, and it features a beautiful, historical, and ancient temple. Moreover, the local people are exceptionally warm and welcoming, which makes the experience even more memorable. In fact, their deep connection to the temple’s traditions adds a unique charm that you won’t find in larger cities. As a result, visitors often leave with a lasting appreciation for both the site and its community.

Yala mountian

Whether you’re gazing up from the valley or admiring them from a distance, both Minyak Gangkar and Yala Mountain, with their soaring peaks, are truly inspiring; in fact, they give you completely different visions from different angles. At the base, the crystal-clear rivers and blue lakes attract all walks of life—from avid photographers to peaceful nature lovers. Moreover, the surrounding meadows and gentle trails make it a perfect place to have a hike and picnic. Best of all, the changing light throughout the day casts new shadows on the peaks, so no two visits ever feel quite the same.

Litang

Although its location is quite high, there are still so many things to discover around Litang. To begin with, the drive itself takes you through towering mountains and several high passes before you finally reach Litang. Once you arrive, the landscape dramatically changes from rugged mountainous terrain to vast, rolling grasslands. Along the way, you would visit many villages and communities, each offering a unique glimpse into local culture and daily life. Furthermore, these roadside stops not only break up the journey but also make the entire experience far more enriching than just the destination alone.

Mt. Genyen

Tucked away in the remote wilderness, the hidden mountain known as Mt. Genyen is truly marvelous to see. Although it’s not yet widely known by many people, it nonetheless offers a perfect day hike up to an old monastery nestled deep in the valley. Along the way, hikers are treated to breathtaking views of pristine alpine landscapes, and the serene atmosphere only grows more captivating with each step. Eventually, reaching the ancient monastery feels like a rewarding discovery, as if time itself has stood still in this peaceful corner of the world.

Yading

Nestled in the center of Kham, Yading National Park—with its stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains, lush forests, and turquoise lakes—is undoubtedly one of the most attractive places on Earth. In contrast, on the other side of the world, there is the epic natural grandeur of Lake Louise and the snow-capped Canadian Rockies, where majestic peaks stretch as far as the eye can see. Similarly, both destinations offer a profound sense of escape; however, the locale’s remoteness and pristine beauty in each place creates an ambiance of peace and perfection. As a matter of fact, this overwhelming tranquility often sparks a desire to never travel back to the “real world” again.
